The food in Oahu, Hawaii is outstanding. I’m thinking about it right now and all I want to do is have some Macadamia Nut Pancakes or some of Mikes Huli Huli chicken. When you visit Oahu you can feel kind of overwhelmed by all of the food options. Well, I lived there for 3 years so I cooked up a good list of my top 10 places to eat in Oahu, Hawaii. I wasn’t a big fan of poke or sushi (at the time) so none of those restaurants will make it on my list.
10. Leonards Bakery
Yummy Malasadas. These are the bomb. They are essentially a doughnut without a hole. These Malasadas come in all kinds of variations. You can have them with cinnamon and sugar coated around it. In the middle, you can get custard, chocolate, Li Hing, coconut, or their flavor of the month! Just look how yummy!
You can find these malasadas floating around in a food truck or they have their own store in Honolulu! I’ve seen the MalasadaMobile in front of the Chilis in Aiea. I’ve also seen it in Waipahu. It might even show up at an Eat The Streets! Once you do see the big red and white truck you will want to stop and grab one of these amazing treats.
9. Dixie Grill
We ate here ALL THE TIME. Sometimes twice a week. We loved it that much. Maybe because we missed Southern BBQ so much and this is the only place where you can get it. They have brisket, crabs, wings, burgers, ribs and all things southern! Aaron would always get the Austin Burger. I think it was cause he’s from Austin, Texas but he swears it tastes amazing. 😉
They’re also famous for their Screamin’ Mai Tais. If you get one, the whole entire restaurant will hear because they blow a whistle and announce it to everyone!
8. Aloha Crepes
Have you ever heard of the Acai Berry? It is a super fruit! It has so many nutrients and tastes AMAZING! Aloha Crepes makes an acai bowl with the acai berry and other fruits that are out of this world.
Other places on the island have this acai bowl but I thought Aloha Crepes made the best one. They are called Aloha Crepes not Aloha Acai Bowl. So yes, they are known for their crepes. The crepes are just as amazing. I can just taste them now.
7. Matsumoto’s Shaved Ice
I know what you’re thinking… Shaved Ice? Come on… It can’t be that good. Why yes guys and gals, it can! This shaved ice is by far the best I’ve ever had! There is always a line out the door of the building even in the middle of winter! Ha.. Ha… “Winter”
They’ve remodeled since that picture so it’s a little more pleasant, actually. What makes the shaved ice so different you ask? Beans, Ice Cream, Mochi, and Milk!! It sounds gross, I know. Go to Matsumoto’s and get yourself some shaved ice with an assortment of flavors and add some Azuki Beans, Ice Cream, mochi and/or Condensed Milk. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY 🙂
6. Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck
This is by far some of the best shrimp I have ever had. It is garlicky shrimp scampi that just takes the world by storm. Just… just… just look at it. And your mouth will water.
You can find Giovanni’s shrimp truck in 2 places: one in Kahuku and the other in Haleiwa. It’s not a hard truck to miss either. When you get your food you’re able to leave your mark on the truck by writing your name. What better way to say that you’ve had the best shrimp by putting your name on the coolest truck?
5. Eat The Street.
This isn’t a restaurant. This is a huge street of food trucks. In my opinion, that’s even better. You can sample all of the food trucks that are in Hawaii in one spot! Trust me, you will not leave hungry when you go to an Eat The Street. You can go to eatthestreethawaii.com to find out when and where the next event is gonna be.
4. Mikes Huli Huli Chicken
Have you ever heard of Guy Fieri? When has he recommended a place and it not be good? These last 4 are tying for 1st place. It was a hard choice. Mike’s Huli chicken is broiled over Kiawe wood and naturally flavored with traditional Hawaiian sea salt. HELLO?? YUMMY!
3. Maui Mikes
How about some more amazing chicken? This time you can have it in sandwich form. Fire Roasted Chicken, Bacon, Cheese, BBQ/Ranch, Blazin Chili Sauce, and their cajun fries. Are you hungry yet??
You can find this restaurant in 2 places. Wahiawa and Kailua. I’ve only ever been to the one in Wahiawa so I can only vouch for that one. Although, I think it would be just as amazing! Just look at how yummy this chicken looks!
2. Boots and Kimos
Oh baby… Macadamia nut pancakes. I have never tasted pancakes like this. The secret is in the sauce. The amazing macadamia nut sauce. I will forever dream about having these pancakes again.
I go here for the pancakes but I keep coming back because everything else about the breakfast joint is amazing. If they have the Kalua Pork Omelet on the menu. GET IT. They were testing it one time when we went and we were one of the first to try it. It was by far one of the best omelets I’ve ever had! Also, the staff is so nice. It’s always busy here but they will always be calm and polite with you. I love Boots and Kimos! And so did Guy Fieri 🙂
1. 7 brothers
The holy grail of burgers. I love burgers. Burgers are just phenomenal, am I right? Well, I think I tasted one of the best burgers of my life in Laie, Hawaii. You’ll probably end up with half of the burger on your face, but that just means it’s a good burger! I think about this burger more than I probably should. Are you from Utah or Arizona? Well, you can get a little taste of this Aloha because they have a restaurant there! I know where we will be stopping when we go through there! Check it out: sevenbrothersburgers.com
